Despite the Israelis having turned
off all water to the Church of the
Nativity in Bethlehem during their
siege, water still flowed from one
faucet.

Anton Salman, a Bethlehem attorney,
played a pivotal role in the
negotiations to end the stand-off at
the Church of the Nativity between
Israeli military forces and
Palestinian militants, security
forces and civilians who took refuge
inside the church. Salman, who was
inside the church during the siege,
reported that the water had been cut
off to the entire complex. For days
those inside the church had no water,
until they discovered that water was
still reaching one faucet in the
convent. “Where the water came from,
we did not know. All the water had
been cut off by the Israelis. The
water tanks were empty, and yet water
kept flowing from that faucet, and it
gave us water,” Salman said. (Source:
